 Foundations is for widows and widowers (typically in their 30s – 70s) in the first months and years after loss who know they can’t stay where they are, but don’t feel ready for a big, intensive program yet.

Through my own journey and coaching hundreds of widows, I mapped out Four Seasons of Grief: Rawness, Isolation, Self‑Discovery, and Empowerment.
  • In Rawness, everything feels like a tornado hit. Your nervous system is on fire and you’re in survival mode.
  • In Isolation, the dust settles and you realize how alone you feel. Time is passing, but nothing is really changing.
Foundations is designed specifically for these first two seasons.
Its job is simple:
  • Help you breathe again,
  • Give you basic structure and safety, and
  • Prepare you for deeper rebuilding work when you’re ready.

You’ll walk through a simple, step‑by‑step process that focuses on stability, support, and small wins.
  1. Calming Your Nervous System (Rawness)
    • Tiny, realistic practices to help your body and brain come out of constant fight‑or‑flight.
    • Gentle routines for mornings and evenings so every day doesn’t feel like starting from zero. 
  2. Doing Less, Not More 
    • How to lower expectations without feeling like you’re “failing at widowhood.” 
    • Scripts for asking for help or saying “no” when you’re at capacity. 
  3. Inviting One Person In (Isolation) 
    • Practical ideas for reconnecting with one safe person without pressure to be “on.” 
    • How to handle friends/church comments that make you want to shut down. 
  4. Foundations of Hope & Identity 
    • Faith‑based tools for talking with God when you’re angry, numb, or confused. 
    • Beginning to separate: “My old life is gone” from “My life is over.” 

Format:

  • Weekly live group call on Zoom led by Emily or a trained Brave Widow coach 
  • Private, text‑based group support space between calls 
  • Short, printable guides and checklists so you’re not trying to remember everything

How Foundations Is Different from Counseling or Grief Groups

  • Not just more talking about pain. We honor your grief, and we also give you concrete, doable steps for the next 7 days.
  • Designed only for widows (and widowers). You don’t have to explain why the empty bed, the paperwork, or the silence under your roof hurts so much.
  • Faith‑based but not “just pray more.” We’ll pray together and talk honestly about how hard this is, without spiritual clichés or pressure to “move on.”
  • A clear next step. When you complete Foundations, you’ll know exactly whether you’re ready for Academy, 1‑1 coaching, or a different pace.
